Settlement

Also called expiration · resolution

The moment a market's outcome is finalized and the winning contracts become worth exactly $1.

Both venues publish the scheduled time in ISO 8601 UTC — Kalshi as a close time on the market, Polymarket as an end date — and the Event Calendar merges open markets from both into one board sorted by when they resolve.

Three distinctions worth keeping straight. Settlement is not the same as the price reaching a dollar: a market can trade at 99¢ for weeks while the outcome is obvious but not yet official. Settlement is not the same as redemption, which is the separate step of claiming the payout. And in a multi-leg position the legs need not settle together — in an implication lock, the NO leg can pay at its own horizon while the YES leg pays months later, so a guaranteed minimum payout is guaranteed in total settled dollars, not on the same day.

That last point is a real cost that screens rarely show. Capital committed to a lock is committed until the slowest leg resolves, and a two-percent locked return over three days is a completely different trade from the same two percent over eight months. Check the settlement date before you size, not after.
